April 4, 2024CRCHC has been awarded the Mommy Baby Friendly Award. In 2022, the Quality Improvement Department with the support of Clinical Administrative Leaders, Dr. Lydia Adams and Dr. Amber Washington; led the initiative to becoming a Mommy Baby Friendly Facility. After meeting multiple requirements, we are happy to announce that we have officially been awarded the designation under BFUSA for the State of North Carolina.
This designation identifies CRCHC clinics as a breast-feeding friendly clinic. We provide education to clinical support staff, providers, and patients that promote healthy chest feedings for up to a year of life. We strive to promote breastfeeding by providing a safe space for moms and/or assisting them with advocating for themselves while in the facility.
In 1991, the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) was launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This global program aims to promote the widespread adoption of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes. The BFHI supports hospitals in equipping mothers with the information, confidence, and skills needed to commence and sustain breastfeeding successfully. It also acknowledges hospitals that excel in this area. Additionally, for cases where formula feeding is necessary due to medical reasons or a well-informed decision by the parents, mothers are provided with guidance on the safe preparation and feeding of formula.
We believe in the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where mothers feel comfortable and supported in their breastfeeding journey. Our goal is to provide resources, guidance, and encouragement to help mothers breastfeed for up to a year, in alignment with the recommendations of health experts.
