Why is Self-Care Important?
Self-care is anything you do that benefits your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Between work and family responsibilities, lots of people feel they don’t leave time for self-care, despite it being extremely important.
Taking time out for yourself can help relieve everyday stressors and reset your mind. Many things such as burnout, anxiety, and depression can be reduced by practicing self-care.
Self-care has been clinically proven to relieve depression and anxiety, increase happiness, and improve energy and concentration. Physically, self-care can reduce heart disease, strokes, and cancer.
Most everyone’s excuse for not practicing self-care is lack of time. But there are many minor changes you can make to your everyday life to make more time for yourself. You could consider waking up earlier to get more things done in the morning before work, replace evening TV watching with something more beneficial for your health, or meal-prep so you can save time cooking during the week. Even if you only have a few minutes for self-care, it is better than nothing.
