CRCHC Hearts Our Community This February
February 26, 2026
In recognition of Children’s Dental Health Month, Cabarrus Rowan Community Health Centers (CRCHC) visited Sugar Creek Charter School on February 23 to teach students how to care for their teeth and build healthy habits early.
CRCHC hosted a Children’s Dental Day for second-grade students, bringing oral health education directly into the classroom. The visit focused on prevention, daily routines, and helping children understand why dental care matters.
Engaging Students With Simple, Healthy Habits
Dr. Ana Murillo, Assistant Dental Director, led an interactive lesson that covered proper brushing and flossing techniques, the importance of regular dental visits, and how food choices can affect dental health. By keeping the conversation age-appropriate and hands-on, students stayed engaged and asked thoughtful questions throughout the session.
“Meeting children where they are and teaching them early creates long-term impact,” said Sean Walker, Community Outreach Navigator at CRCHC. “These conversations help children understand that taking care of their teeth supports their overall health.”
Reinforcing Oral Health at Home
To help extend learning beyond the classroom, CRCHC provided educational materials for students to take home. These resources support families in reinforcing good dental habits and encourage children to practice what they learned every day.
School-based outreach like this allows CRCHC to strengthen community partnerships while promoting preventive care and early education. By connecting directly with students, CRCHC helps remove barriers to health information and builds trust with families in the community.
Through initiatives such as Children’s Dental Days, CRCHC continues to promote healthier smiles, stronger habits, and better outcomes for children across the region.
